Tools for Managing Conflict

Many different types of conflicts occur every day - for example, children who bully others at school and violent demonstrations by factory workers. Conflict management offers different strategies for helping people to resolve these conflicts. These strategies include negotiation, mediation, diplomacy, nonviolence, and counseling, and people who are experts at managing conflicts will creatively combine several of these strategies as needed. However, the success of these strategies depends on several factors, such as the specific issues at stake in the conflict and the cultural context.
