Towards academic reading

Read this paragraph and answer the question below.

Fat Children and Academic Performance

Studies have shown that obese children – children who are extremely overweight - get lower grades than children who don't have weight problems. According to these studies, obesity is directly related to low self-esteem. It has been shown that low self-esteem which arises from obesity is a strong predictor of low academic performance. This is true for boys as well as for girls, with a higher correlation for girls.

Choose two implications of these studies for parents and teachers.

Obese children should be considered 'high risk' in need of academic and emotional support.

Overweight children should participate in activities which will help them build positive self esteem at home and in school.

Students getting low grades are probably not eating properly.
