There are different views regarding the growth of the world's population. Paul Ehrlich argued that population growth must be controlled to prevent natural resources such as clean air and water, forests and oil from being used up. This would cause hunger and poverty for future generations. Ehrlich's solution was to suggest that people should have fewer children.
Julian Simon, in contrast, argued that a growing population is good for the world. He was sure that an increase in population would also increase human talent, which would find a solution to the problem of limited food and energy. He was not worried about the disappearance of natural resources.
