How Are Earthquakes Measured?

The seismic intensity scale was the first scale invented to measure earthquakes. This scale “;measured”; intensity of the earthquake by asking people to “;describe how severe an earthquake is in the place where you're standing ג€” how bad it is “;on a scale of 1 to 10.”; These descriptions ranged from 1 (“;I could barely feel it”;) to 10 (“;Everything around me fell down!”;). However, in 1935 Charles Richter developed a less subjective scale for measuring intensity of earthquakes. This scale assigns numbers to the intensity of the earthquake according to the actual shaking of an earthquake in specific areas.
