Learning New Words

Learning vocabulary is an ongoing process. It continues throughout our lives. When we were younger, every moment of every day was a new and different learning experience. By the age of 5, children usually know about 9,600 words. By the age of 10, most children know about 34,300 words in the language which they speak at home. By the time they reach their second year in college, most successful students know over 120,000 words.
