Ivan Pavlov was a famous Russian scientist who discovered that you can 'condition', or cause a certain behavior in animals by reinforcing the behavior that you want. Pavlov was able to cause a dog to salivate (drool from his mouth) every time the dog heard a bell ringing. Pavlov did this by ringing a bell every time he brought food to the dog, until the dog learned to associate the bell with food. After a while, the dog would salivate every time he heard the bell, even if Pavlov did not bring him food.
