Teenage Girls' Responses
In 1980, De Jong conducted an experiment to examine the responses of teenage girls to photographs of overweight girls and thin girls. Each photograph had an attached statement, presumably written by the person in the photograph. Participants' responses to the photographs suggested that unless the fat person’s statement offered an ג€excuseג€ for her weight, she was rated as less likeable than the slim girls in the photographs.
