Towards academic reading

According to Edward de Bono, creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way. De Bono and other experts think that everyone can learn to be more creative. They have developed a range of techniques for increasing people's creativity.

This exercise introduces a tool called SCAMPER, developed by Robert Eberle. This tool is a set of questions you can ask yourself to help you think of new ideas.

SCAMPER stands for:

Substitute: What can I use instead of what I always use?

Combine: What can I combine or put together to do something in a new way?

Adapt: How can I change this?

Modify or Magnify: What can I add or make bigger?

Put to alternative uses: How can I use this differently

Eliminate or Minimize: What can I reduce, remove or make smaller?

Reverse or Rearrange: What can be rearranged in some way?

Creating something new is not easy. This exercise gives you questions that can help you change something that already exists into something unique.

What can the questions in the SCAMPER set help you to do?

 Choose the TWO correct answers.
