Specified comes from the word specify which means to say something clearly and exactly.

For example:

I specified exactly which type of ice cream I wanted so that you wouldn't bring me any of the types I don't like.

When you make a hotel reservation, you must specify the date of arrival, the number of nights you wish to stay and the type of room you want.
